Hopeless Scores Are Higher

I was answering a forum post when I noticed a bug in the way Hopeless calculated its scores. It counts up the number of blocks that get removed but it accidentally wasn’t counting the one you clicked on, so it was always 1 lower than it should have been.
The bug is fixed now, but since it changes the way scoring works, scores going forward will be a little higher than they used to be. Unfortunately it’s not possible to fix up the old scores. I don’t think this is as big a deal for Hopeless as it is for the solitaire games.
I also added a change that so that going forward we have the option of rescoring games. Which is good because I’m still not exactly content with Hopeless scoring—I think it’s biased toward games of 3 colors.
Hopeless is now clearing blocks when you click on singletons, too. Now we ALWAYS clear all the blocks. It will only give a “Game Over” indication before clearing the page if all the blocks left are singletons. But it’s rather easy to manipulate it so that all singletons get cleared leaving only multiples, meaning a clean slate.
Also, how does Gameguy get tons of scores in the 33,000 range? A good game for me approaches about 10% of that. Those high scores make no sense (I just play for fun anyway, but it is curious).
Whoops! You’re right. It should be fixed now.
I stopepd playing Hopeless as the you get fed up with certain people just taking the mick and filling up the leaderboard with their name. 9 seconds to complete a gameis ridiculous. Why not just show a players top score not ALL their scores. Certain users have just disincentivised a whole load of people who used to enjoy the challenge – I won’t challenge people who record their keystrokes – that is just “sad”.
I used to enjoy the challenge of beating people and them beating me – it was fun – where is the fun now? 🙁
If you want to see how to get those scores I would show you. It is simply finding the best solution. Once I found the best solution I worked on doing it as fast as I can.
The high scores above 33864 should be deleted. They were made on the day that there was a change that allowed single blocks to be removed, but I can do the 33864 score all day.
I don’t want to spoil the game for others. I will stop playing it if it is causing others to quit. I felt the challenge to best the highest score and there was a guy who kept playing a game where he kept getting the highest score so I figured out how to match that game, then I worked on the speed so that I could do it as fast as I could. I wound up with a high score of 33864 and a fast time. I was working on the speed because that was the challenge had left to figure out, but apparently that was discouraging to others.
Any scores I made above 33864 were done on the day that the game allowed single blocks to be eliminated and that allowed for more scoring opportunities, so I suggest that you delete those scores, but I accomplished the 33864 under the legitimate rules.
I apologize if my competitive nature got the best of me in this game.
